Brookshire Grocery Company Adds SAP Business Suite  

Brookshire Grocery Company, a supermarket chain with 156 stores located in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi, selects the SAP Business Suite family of business applications to unify its disparate software systems, consolidate data management, help enable better reporting and allow its employees to contribute to value-added activities.

HP Unveils POS Verification Program

HP announces its 'Point-of-Sale (POS) Solution Ready Program,' which helps retailers purchase point-of-sale solutions that have been previously tested by HP. The program gives certified independent software vendors (ISVs) direct access to HP's ISV Partner Program Portal and other resources, including access to technical, marketing and sales. The programs also helps ensure smooth integration and support to small and medium-size businesses.

Through this program, retailers can optimize their software applications on HP POS systems using a verification process that allows software to operate on all HP POS systems and peripherals.

Verified software providers are listed on the ISV Partner Program Portal at www.hp.com/go/pos and marked with HP's Point-of-Sale Solution Ready insignia, which allows retailers to identify solutions that have been vendor-tested for compatibility and smooth integration.

HP's ISV Partner Program Portal additionally offers these software partners the following benefits:

- Partners receive negotiated partner rates on third-party services and support such as technical support to help retailers integrate new POS solutions into existing technology platforms.

- ISVs receive a 50 percent discount on HP hardware for technical testing, demonstration and customer presentations.

- Through the program network, ISVs can work with local HP and channel sales agents to offer a holistic POS solution, including hardware, software and services.

- Program partners are provided with early access to new solutions and innovations for retail


 

Oracle Acquires Advanced Visual Technology

Oracle announces that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Advanced Visual Technology (AVT), a provider of 3D visual macro space planning software for retailers.

AVT helps enable retailers to collaborate with their stores and supplier partners to design and plan retail floor space in real-time with a current photo-realistic view of each store. AVT products combined with Oracle Retail's comprehensive application suite is expected to increase the profitability of a store's selling space through enhanced space allocation and performance monitoring across categories, aisles, departments and the entire store. AVT employees and management are expected to join the Oracle Retail Global Business Unit.

The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2008. Until the deal closes, each company will continue to operate independently. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.


 

Sheetz Rolls Out RedPrairie Site Operations in 350 stores

Petco uses the Ask & Answer tool from Bazaarvoice to deliver customer engagement and drive better sales results. Petco teamed up with Bazaarvoice to develop and promote The Answer Den, a customized functionality that leverages Bazaarvoice Ask & Answer hosted technology to enable customers to ask and answer questions about thousands of Petco products. By combining The Answer Den with its Bazaarvoice Ratings & Reviews implementation, Petco provides its customers with valuable new user-generated content that drives sales both online and in its nearly 950 stores nationwide.

Petco customers who consulted The Answer Den purchased products 72 percent more often than site visitors who did not visit The Answer Den. Answer Den users generated 90 percent more page views per session, nearly 40 percent more items per order and a 10 percent higher average order value.

"The Answer Den allows the Petco community to come together to ask and answer questions about products, talk about pet care topics and share advice to help other pet parents. Datalogic Scanning announces the availability of Gryphon D432/D412 Plus general purpose 2D imagers. The new Gryphon 2D Plus imager is targeted for use in a wide range of AIDC (Automatic Identification and Data Collection) applications.
