Office Depot Unveils Company’s First “Green” Store 

Office Depot opens its first 'Green' store, located in Austin, TX. Office Depot's 'Green' store, is pre-certified to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards by the USGBC. The retailer will use less energy and water in its daily operations, increase recycling and leave a much smaller overall environmental footprint than the typical store of its size.

Office Depot green store also is utilizing a new approach in visual merchandising. The interior walls feature educational vignettes about how the store and product assortment are both greener; customers will be welcomed by an informational board containing interesting facts and details on what makes the store green; and store associates will be armed with tips and recommendations to help customers learn how to green their own business.

"Office Depot has an environmental vision to increasingly buy green, be green and sell green," says Yalmaz Siddiqui, director of environmental strategy for Office Depot. "While we have already achieved dramatic reductions in carbon emissions from our existing facilities, this new store takes us to a completely new level of energy efficiency, carbon reduction and waste reduction."

 

Wilsons The Leather Experts Sells Outlet Store and E-Commerce Assets

Wilsons The Leather Experts announces the sale of its outlet store and e-commerce assets to AM Retail Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of G-III Apparel Group, a New York- based apparel company. Under the terms of the agreement, AM Retail Group purchased all inventory, fixed assets and intellectual property principally related to Wilsons Leather's outlet store and e-commerce divisions.

The leases associated with Wilsons Leather's 116 outlet stores were assigned to AM Retail Group. The sale is part of Wilsons Leather's previously announced strategy to obtain capital to be used in the launch of its new mall accessories store concept. In connection with these actions, Wilsons Leather will change its name to PreVu.
 

 

Christopher & Banks Adds Oracle Suite to Support Growth

Christopher & Banks, a women's apparel retailer, implements Oracle Retail planning applications and Oracle Fusion Middleware to help increase gross margins and support its growing business. Christopher & Banks deploys Oracle Retail Merchandise Financial Planning, Oracle Retail Item Planning, Oracle Retail Assortment Execution and Oracle Retail Demand Forecasting. The retailer chose to implement Oracle based largely on the scalability and speed to value of the applications. Christopher & Banks also has recently completed the implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite of financial applications.

"As a fashion retailer, we needed a flexible platform that could be easily configured to meet the unique requirements of our business. Oracle has the most complete, scalable solution on the market and the speed to value of their retail applications really fit the needs of our business," said Steve Danker, senior vice president of information systems and strategy, Christopher & Banks.

 

Honeywell Acquires Metrologic Instruments

Honeywell acquires Metrologic Instruments, a manufacturer of laser and mobile imaging and remote scanning. Metrologic will be part of Honeywell Imaging & Mobility, a line of business within Honeywell Security. Honeywell Imaging & Mobility includes Hand Held Products, a manufacturer of imaging and mobility solutions, acquired by Honeywell last year.

Metrologic provides laser and imaging bar code scanners, including linear and omni-directional laser scanners, fixed position and in-counter scanners, area imagers and rugged mobile computers. It developed its first handheld retail-based laser bar code scanner in 1975 and has nearly 500 patents in areas that include laser and imaging technology.

Metrologic incorporates laser, holographic, vision-based, RFID and emerging technologies to create its products and solutions. Its imaging and scanning solutions serve a variety of retail point-of-sale, industrial, inventory and distribution applications. 

 

Super S Foods Adds Price and Promotion Software

Super S Foods implements price and promotional modeling and optimization from KSS Retail. Super S Foods, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, serves numerous communities around San Antonio, Austin, Houston and Corpus Christi. Super S will begin deployment of KSS price optimization software immediately.
